“The beautiful Cape Dutch farm of Buitenverwachting sits on the eastern slopes of Constantiaberg, just 12km from False Bay. Here, the deep granite soils and cooling sea breezes help to produce wines with a true sense of place that combine intense flavour concentration with beautiful freshness and aromatics.


Buitenverwachting was originally part of the Constantia Estate, founded by first governor of the Cape Dutch colony Simon Van der Stel. Since being sold off as a separate estate in 1773, the first vines were planted on the farm in 1825 and it changed hands all too many times until the Mueller family purchased it in 1980. It’s thanks to the Mueller family, who extensively planted new vineyards, that the estate has returned to its former glory. The family’s maiden harvest after 30 fallow years on the farm truly lived up to the name Buitenverwachting – ‘Beyond Expectation’. Now under the stewardship of owner Lars Maack, the team here continue to make wines of exceptional quality and value.”
